Well after swearing for ages that I wouldn't go to the shorter "sunday finish" events again I did and thank goodness for that!

George and Nick (along with the excellent support of their monsters) put together a really interesting event with some quality fights, cool challenges and intriguing characters.

High points for me;

* Two Parties! Sure they were both on the small side but it felt great to have two parties running on the same event for the first time in aaaaages.

* Riddle / Translation game. I really liked this challenge in particular. The riddles fit so nicely in the theme and then using the results to translate the words of wisdom was a nice twist.

* Layers of plot. Sadly it wasn't until Adam and I were on the home comparing overlands that we realised how entangled and interwoven everything was! Well done refs it was great now I must make more effort on the event to discuss details!

* Banquet Meal. Again a fun set piece where even from the kids end the atmosphere of the various Mongul 'nobles' came across really strongly, it felt like a proper IC meal rather than a bite to eat between the roleplay.

* New Guys! Hurrah for new faces, hope you enjoyed yourselves and will be coming along again!

Bet I have missed loads of things out but thanks.

Shaun

P.S. Time In Sunday mornings is still rubbish. Fun as that fight was I'd have been just as happy to do it on Saturday

I was quite apprehensive before the event having had a few years off reffing, however i need not have worried. Running the event was enjoyable and actually not very stressful (it did help to stress plenty beforehand)- starting with the fact that there were plenty of very happy people before we even arrived.

I'd like to thank Bruce and Sky for player reffing, Corrina and Jenny for cooking (& playing Sorghatani) and all the monsters especially Phil, Ed and Murray who excelled at their 1st crewing, and Lee and Callum who both stepped up to big parts at short notice. All the monsters did excellent roleplaying and were constantly helpful and fun to be around.

Personally I was pleased with how the dual party dynamic worked, though I, like Shaun would have preferred the big fight to be last thing Sat night rather than Sunday morning. Having said that by getting things moving Sun morning and not messing around with warm ups we were able to get to time over in reasonable time giving people with long journeys a chance to get home.

I was also pleased with how the non linear sections went, the fights, the traps and scrolls, the storytelling and the banquet. These sections that we run do always seem to go well, though on paper one worries about them more than the linear stuff.

Finally thanks to Nick, good to be back in the team again and was fun from conception to delivery, here's to the next one!
cheers
G

Hats of to George and Nick for running another great event.

I also dislike short adventure weekends normally but am glad George persuaded me to come as I really enjoyed myself.

Great party, fantasic monsters and fab food as always. Also good to see some new people, hopefully we will see them again.

Some really great plot which I look forward to being further developed and a nice mix of overlands and entertaining at base encounters.

Have to agree about the Sunday mroning thing, always been something I have not been keen on but happy with how George and Nick dealt with it meaning that we could still depart before 12.

See you on the next one!

I'll add my thanks for a great event to refs, crew, cooks and fellow party members. Lots of nice plot and it all hung together really well. It's good to be back.

Well done all!

I have just about recovered from the weekend, and am very pleased with the results. It was great to working with George again, and our skill sets proved yet again to be complimentary.

The monsters where superb, dinner was particularly satisfying to watch events unfurl, and the different characters played their parts, and of course plenty of Araik! I have to give kudos to Phil and Lee for picking things up so quickly and really get into things.

The players were on form too, with the dogs acing most of our challenges!

I think the two party system worked really well and hope to see more low levels out in future. This event was one more step towards getting new blood flowing back into HQ.

A note to the refs, we managed to reach allot of people via FB, and we messaged everyone on the maybe list of the group. Although not many made it those that did where true nuggets, so lets keep getting ourselves out there it will pay off in the end!

It's going to start sounding like there's an echo in here...

This was my first time monstering a decent length event in a couple of decades: last one was long before Ed was born. I'm a bit less fit than back then.. I could barely lift a sword by Sunday, let alone swing one with enough speed to hit anything or parry.

It was extremely enjoyable - one of the joys of monstering an adventure like that was getting the explanations of what was going on & realizing the depth of plot; hearing the Khan+family's briefings before encounters meant we could really appreciate the sheer quality of roleplay from the NPCs. And what cheating bastards the Khalid (sp?) are..

Going on the overlands with George as a monster ref was huge fun - his enthusiasm is infectious & we were all enjoying it even when getting rained on. Kudos to the party (-ies), too: very well played.

Don't know if Ed & Murray will happen along here to say anything, but if not I know they really enjoyed themselves (& Ed showed a level of stamina I didn't realize he had.. next time he complains he's too tired, I'll know he's got plenty in reseve ). It was a rather intense 48 hours, one heck of a LARPing baptism (I had taken them to Labyrinthe for a couple of hours, but I don't think that counts.. it was pretty shit) & I'm really pleased with the way they came through it </proudfather>

Have to say that it's all so much more civilized than it used to be: good food, toilets & even showers.. it takes away the biggest discomforts & downsides to the multi-day adventures, leaving much more space for enjoyment.

Ed & I will get down there again when we can (I hope Murray will be able to join us, too).. moving house in three weeks or so, will try and work out when once we're back to something approaching normality.

Thanks again to George, Nick, the other monsters, party, caterers.. a brilliant weekend.

Muchos apologies for not writing my thanks sooner. Wonderful event, thanks to efforts of refs, sterling monster crew and willing party.
Thanks to Shaun for his 'story' , I did not want to tell one, and he came up trumps. I love events where the score is visible, knotted scarves, teeth, etc. brilliant.
There was something like this years ago at Buckstone, and the players were stealing gems from monsters too, to try to stitch up the scores, this one was more fair...
Really enjoyed everyone's contribution, but I did go back to school talking like a dog for few days.
Dog HQ next year?

Dogs HQ?

Ideally I would imagine that would be 5 days spend drinking out of puddles, foraging for mushrooms and sleeping in ditches, before finally sneaking up on the enemy on day 5.

Is Bear Grylls available to Ref?
