Hello all.
I need to say a Humongous thank you to SGB(C) for writing such an amazing event with fantastic plot, fights, decisions, support and variation of things to do even on the PotSD. The event you all just ran has made me desperate to play more. Although I didn't get to be involved in as much of the plot as I wanted to, the main stuff which I did ofcourse get involved in was brilliant and knowing there was so much plot we could access if we asked the right questions was brilliant too. I also felt that none of the refs intervened but were there for us at all of the perfect moments in the right way. That can be a hard task and you hit the (as well as many other things)nail on the head. Thank you so much!
Also, ofcourse, without the monsters being so tremendous and playing each of the roles they were given so well made every encounter enjoyable from my point of view. (Alex Spencer you had to do some very, umm interesting roles and every one of them you played come rely differently. I never knew which way the diploming would go with you!)
The players, thank you all very very much for accepting me as leader and allowing me to lead properly. I know many of you have said I did a good job and I hope that's true. I know there were moments but the way you all were with me throughout the week gave me the determination to stick to the way I wanted to lead. It's so much easier to lead with people helping you rather than doubting/questioning your actions and you all have me the support I needed in different ways. I wouldn't of been able to do the job anyway well if you hadn't helped me. Also the RP moments, comedy, theories shared, time spent and combat with you all at different times made the event what it was.
As always mum and Jen were fantastic. Lovely food that was on point and their characters were entertaining at times too. Thank you for feeding me(us)) and looking after us.
I know I've gone on a bit but that's how much of a brilliant time I had.

In my current state I've managed to piece together some of my highlights:
The final encounter in the caves. Even though we made a cluster mess of retreating to begin with when we got to the right direction it was incredible. And even pulled on my emotions.
Talking to one of the half realm council whilst watching the undead fight with Rancors father at the back.
The end. I know it didn't all go to plan and even though succeeding to kill Cardinaris and the void avatar was ace, Gav and Wayne just put the cherry on the wrap up of the event.

So yes, thank you all, you're amazing. I bloody love Heroquest!!!!

I'm knackered. And I'm just the healer, so imagine how everyone else feels. I loved it all. I really was creeped out by the caves as Alex, but Bill was exhilarated, terrified, oppressed and creeped out, and that is what its all about, outside my comfort zone.
the rest of it was brill, cracking fights, awesome role-playing of blows and effects.
I'm in the middle of writing a report, four pages into it, and we've just got to the half realm. if that's how long my report is going to be, imagine how much planning the ref team did.
you all performed out of your skins, refs, monsters and players.

I cannot say my favourites, as there were so many excellent bits. Tickling Lord C with a Mass Cure Mortal was funny.
Drumming down the caves was excellent entertainment, but the new drum is a touch massive.
The excellent fighting line was great, and most of the time I felt completely safe behind it.
We all did our bits and no-one was a passenger.
The final encounter, I invoked 9 times. It was so intense, I loved the story-telling of it all.
Rancor and Tancred brought me to tears.
Thanks to you all.

Wow!

That is a very fitting word for how I feel right now. After a very long lay off from Role Playing what with life throwing multiple curve balls my way I can only say how fantastic this week has been!

To begin with I have to mention the party. To a man (and woman) you were all immense. I had such a great time talking and fighting with you all and I can honestly say I don't remember a past event were I felt a complete sense of happiness when thinking of you all. You were all a pleasure to spend time with and it is great to know that this club I have spent 29 years being involved with is still alive and better than ever!

A special mention for both Skye and Ichabod for both keeping on top of the story and always being there to deal with the diplomacy on this mission. I know what a difficult and sometimes thankless task that can be and both of you in different ways handled things very very well.

The Ref / Monster team were amazing. It was clear to me just how much preparation and effort had gone into this event. It was absolutely without question my favourite HQ dungeon to date and I know many others I talked to felt the same way. It was a pleasure to return and this whole event combined has most certainly re-awakened my love for Role Play.

To my Sword Brothers I do feel a deep sense of sadness that I will not be able to fight alongside you as Rancor anymore but the way the event went and the conclusion of the story made perfect sense to me. To head into the light after Tancred, my original Sword Brother seemed a fitting end to 27 years fighting alongside each other as these characters. The Sword is in great hands and I look forward to hearing the future stories and accomplishments of The Sacred Sword. To Cirith in particular I will miss our days together Brother! Oh what a journey we have had together, some of the best times of my life.

One final special mention to 2 champions we have had the pleasure of spending so much time with over the years.

Lupus - You have been the most stalwart and trusted ally the Sword could have ever asked for. We have a long history together and some of the greatest and hardest moments of our campaign will always be remembered with you standing by my side and Brother in my heart till the end!

Verrick - A true champion of the light and our other most stalwart and trustworthy ally. It has been an honour to play this character with you and I thank you for your honest and sometimes challenging opinions and for being a huge catalyst in the evolution of the Sacred Sword.

Highlights well there are too many to mention. Probably the most overwhelming was the small ceremony that was held as I was about to become Guardian of the Hall of Heroes. To see legitimate sadness and emotions rising up in so many of you literally brought me to tears. It took every ounce of my strength at that moment when surrounded by you all to keep myself in check.

The encounter with Rancor's Father was immense. Even though to be honest I did not get to see a great deal of it, it was a moment when I realised that Rancor's adventuring days were coming to an end.

Sitting outside with Kurt and Klegg whilst we ate dinner and then lobbing a wet soggy carrot at the Dymwan as he turned and walked away. Then Gav's response 'I will not forget the Carrot!' had me in a fit of hysterical giggles that I have not experienced in so many years. To be fair on this event I have laughed probably more than I have laughed in the previous 5 years which is a blessing unto itself.

And so Rancor's days are done but Wayne's are just beginning again. I look forward to seeing you all again very soon. Let the new and good times roll!

Xernes says.....
So it's lunch time at work and just about back to human bar my body being battered to hell and back!

First off thanks to all that organised and helped put this together. Just everyone was amazing.

Can't pick a best bit so a collection of thoughts.

Day 1 betrayed. Perfect start to any evil mission get fooled into helping the bad guy! The argument between Cyirith and Mian. My HQ ability part 1 always best to let the refs chose.

Day 2 to Hell, well the halls of the dammed. Constant pressure and not a moment to rest you knew you were in a very bad place. Extra thanks to the crew for running us ragged. To die to ones own words!

Day 3 Family and fan club. Welcome to the Hearth Realm.
So they like me here everybody wants me in their family, my ancestors are here HQ ability part 2.....Xernes fan club, lighters and so much laughter.

Day 4 Meeting the bad, bad, bad man. Dymnuns the most scariest things you could ever see. The IC distrust of Xernes, should he carry the staff.

Day 5 toil to tears. The weight of darkness, the cold respect and fear, Cock face and Puke. The A team and blind team C defeat joy soon turned to sadness, the lament for fallen hero's.

The party. The leaders such a great job with a tough mission and group. The constant growth of the party as we rescued people from day 1. Think we were 21 strong when facing Cardey.

Just such fun roleplaying with you and some messed up conversations, Aunty Mayball and the whispering wind, Mountain Boo to serious arguments on trust and belief.

Hope to return the favour in July we swap sides.

I have written my record of events. It's 11 pages. Just to say that while writing the ending, I cried again. Not because of my awesome prose, but because of the memories of what happened.
The report has been submitted to Paul, so hopefully it will be up soon
Thanks again

Wow, sounds like an amazing event to have been on! The last bit sounds very emotional - wish I could have seen it.

Well done everyone for all your hard work.

Great to have a very quick hello before I had to shoot off! Wish I could have stayed longer!
(I got home with 5 minutes to spare so clearly my time management has improved over the last decade )

Thanks Bill for the quick and detailed write up.

My pleasure, I had the leisure, so it seemed fair to get it done. I'm cringing upon reading it seeing errors that I'd didn't spot while fighting with my blasted laptop... Embarrassing. I can actually spell. Honest.

I didn't notice any (which is unusual) - I suggest you blame Gob anyway

Excellent write up Bill!

Thanks for taking the time and effort to tell the story.

I felt sadness rising up as the tale came to an end. Good times

Re:One Life, One Death. 1 Year, 4 Months ago Karma: 2
First up a massive thanks to everybody involved in One life, one death.
Especially the refs- Gav, Bruce, Shaun and Chioma, but also the excellent crew, Creen and Jen and ofc the players.

Before the event the party looked really fun on paper and it proved to be true as no matter what the party were in good spirits and enjoying themselves.

The briefs before the event and the help with bb's and rules was also ace.

The day down the caves was outstanding- thanks to Shaun for taking his driving duties seriously and to the refs and crew for making sure that we were all safe and happy in a very challenging enviroment- depite Cirith being in a state of terror most of the time, George felt safe and well looked after all the time.

The Choriens daughters were very scary, as was being in prison with Gil and Dymtharis ( i had hoped i would never meet Gil) The runout was terrifying especially as it nearly went horribly wrong.

Loved ( and hated) the crawlthrough, rediscovering Polis and the whole thing with the glowstick, spirit strength and spiritual essences was really well thought out and very engaging.

Honestly, one of the best days i've ever had LARPing- it will live long in the memory.

Really enjoyed the split party at the start and the humble hovel of humact. Getting rescued was ace , seeing all the old friends after a few years was great and standing up to Mian was most enjoyable.

It was really nice to have a calm day on Thursday- though the fight with Rancors dad was brilliant and Waynes roleplaying was spot on and bloody hysterical (dadadada im not listening lol) was very tense when we were caught on our own- seeing Scortch's heels as he sped off to get the rest of the group was quite a relief.

Fri was really tough and i realise now how scary we must have been at fest as the Dymwan cos Gav, Neil and Lex make a truly scary trio. Lots of big fights and some excellent diploming from Kiara.

Kudos to Kiara who led us excellently- I for one enjoyed my game more knowing the Sky had it taken care of. There were a number of times that the pressure was really on and Sky reacted really well, kept calm took advice and made good decisions. It definitely helped that we were united and she had good advice but its still hard so well done Sky.

Fri was the day that the good evil schism was at its widest but both *sides* continued to respect and value each other and as was said many times our strength comes from our diversity and despite the challenging situation it felt like we were always on the same team. Killing the void collector Fri was done well and it felt like we were really hitting our stride by now.

I really enjoyed the pace on Sat a everyone was pretty exhausted. Most memorable are meeting Puke again which was very funny, the TPK against the death knights and of course the grand finale.
Rancors decision the become guardian of the halls was immense and the emotions was strong and tangible. The reforging of the sword was a massive boost and it felt like all would be well

I had wondered how the refs would do it, and how it would play out and it was pretty much perfect. We had a decent plan and it worked. As we approached the battle i turned to Tankred and said - you are going to leave us now as well aren't you brother?

I am brother he replied, you know me so well- and thus the legends of the sword were secured. Tankred ensured that Cardonaris returned to the life sphere and as we stood there stunned, realising the staff was still with us I thought who next? Rancor took up the challenge and that was it- weeping all round. Staring into the fire thinking of everything that had happened in the last week and the last 20 years.

A most fitting ending for 2 great characters, superbly executed by 2 excellent rolplayers.
A most fitting ending to one of Heroquest's greatest storylines, superbly executed by Heroquest's finest referees.

Massive respect to all,
George
