TOPIC: Care for leather products?

Care for leather products? 7 Years, 10 Months ago Karma: 26
Appreciate any tips here

I've acquired a beautiful new soft-leather hood which from day 1 is going to be exposed to nasty white hair spray that has ruined the inside of all my other hoods

Any tips on how I can protect the leather so it doesn't discolour or ruin from the hair spray?

I would recommend treating the inside with Scotchguard or a similar leather protecting/sealing product.

Then after every event sponge down and clean the inside of the hood and dry thoroughly before storage.

The drying part is vital or you will end up with a moldy hood in no time. I've lost more leather kit that way...

You are not going to be able to prevent the hairspray rubbing off on the hood - all you can do is make it as easy to remove as possible and try to clean it as completely as possible after each use.

An application of regular, uncoloured hairspray over the top of the white would also seal in some of the colour and reduce rub-off. The same process works on face make-up too.

Let me just get something straight... Are we REALLY talking about your "new hood" or have you actually acquired a new "lingerie" set which you're subtly asking for care advice for?

I find regular boot polish keeps my Gimp suit looking shiny and fresh.

Ensure suit is completely dry before storage to prevent zips from becoming rusted.

talcum powder and baby oil is the best for a shiny finish and it waterproofs it at the same time........or so I've been told

Talc on the inside obviously.

Linseed oil also works well if you want a high-gloss finish.
