how can i build my own jerkin 7 Years, 3 Months ago Karma: 2  
Hi all looked at other peoples costume on the hf recently and wandered where i could buy the leather jerkin u know the leather sleeveless jackets, but i was thinking maybe i could build one and make my own pattern any idea how i can do this who could i talk to about it.

it looks expensive to buy one

if you get really soft leather you can just use a tunic pattern for cloth. I assume by jerkin you mean a sleeveless coat type thing and you want cheap it may be possible to use an old leather jacket with the sleeves cut off.

** You have to be careful here as it may look crap..... **

I do have 2 very old coats if you want want to try it... they are quite warm looking though and you would have to do something about the zips, but it's free if you want it.

thanks rob no worries i've got a few coats i've wanted to get rid of recently, i just need to think how im going to make them look good. thanks for the advice and help.

if i cut the sleeves off and replace the zip piece with button and look into putting some kind of leather suade around parts of it would it look ok .
