Rules Section, Links and Layout 8 Years, 4 Months ago Karma: 1
Hello fabulous webteam,

Just a couple of questions.

1) There are loads of broken links and formatting problems in the spells lists. Is there anything I can do to help rules sections in general?

2) Would it be possible to change to a daker font on a cream background within frames containing large blocks of text such as the rules section? I only ask because I personally find it difficult to read and for those with reading difficulties the white on black can make those problems worse.

Cheers

Pat

Pat

there is generally a need to update some of the content, restructure the menus and add content from the old site.

I guess the current plan is to do it when folk get the time.
If you a volunteering to help out that's good.

Hi Pat

Thanks for your message - I know how much work you put into the last website!

In answer to your questions:

1) The rules pages are currently auto-generated out of a database, so any changes here are a matter of PHP coding.

When you say the links are broken, are you meaning the spells/skills/invocations at the top which should be referring down to the description later on in the page? If so I think that is a technical problem, because we are fiddling with the URLs so that search engines can crawl these pages (ultimately pointless here as the rules aren't available to the outside world, but it's all or nothing...) and I think it's the fiddling is what's causing it to break. I suppose I can take another look...

2) For aesthetics, we are using a templated website, with the template carefully selected after much debate. If too many people are finding it hard to read then the powers that be could start debating the look & feel of the website once more!

as mentioned - general rules re-write/clarification/re-wording etc happening

some of which can be seen on the wiki

www.heroquest-larp.co.uk/wiki/index.php5?title=Main_Page

make comments there please Pat

I'll get round to adding to the rules wiki next week most likely but there is a small amount there to comment on already

I'm not much use on the techy side I am afraid (the words database and PHP scared me a little) but I am a fairly good editor and writer if the content side needs any work. So yes I would be happy to help if there is anything you would like to give me to do.

As for 2) clearly I should have paid some attention to the initial debate and will keep my mouth shut in future as it is a bit late now.

I will have look at the Wiki and make comments there. Cheers Pete.

If anybody's got their thinking cap on, and can think of a new menu structure for the site it would be much appreciated... Something that makes everything a bit more clearly organised, but keeps the important info (like forums, gallery, login/logout etc. only one click away...

Prize for the winning entry is one of Bruce's nasal hairs, which he has kindly donated
