TOPIC: Changes to the Gallery

Changes to the Gallery 7 Years, 4 Months ago Karma: 26
When you click on an image in the gallery to view it

- rather than loading a massive gigantic image
- you can now see medium-sized images and navigate forward and backwards through them a lot easier (a bit like facebook)

You still have the option to load the giant photo too, but not as default.

This should hopefully improve your gallery-browsing experience!

For fun I've also now added a function that lets you rate images on the scale of:
- like
- laugh
- facepalm

I ran the "rm" command in the wrong directory

Gallery temporarily unavailable

Hopefully Seb has a backup somewhere

Actually, turns out I had made a backup a few weeks ago.

Fortunately most of the gallery is now back to normal, except the funky voting icon things which won't work for the moment.

While you're fixing that, can you fix teeny-tiny expire time on the forum sessions. Please?

Hi Mike

I've changed something that involved cookies. Let me know if it works now. Or if it doesn't. Don't know at what point it'll kick in as you may already have had a cookie set for this current session...

p.s. don't you love looking at code like this:

// First we drop an updated cookie, good for 1 year
// We have consolidated multiple instances of cookie management into this single location
// NOT SURE IF WE STILL NEED THIS ONE after session management got dbtized

Good to know that the developers knew exactly how their system worked & how it was supposed to function!

Sarah.

I read code comments like that every week. Fortunately, I have the power to reject changes I don't like.

On an unrelated note, all the programmers hate me.

Do you ever read comments like these? Personally I suspect Seb writes code just for the comments. Taken from a random file created by Seb (the one that I accidentally deleted in fact!)

// Find out which filthy admin decided to do this evil deed!

// Hello Mr Model, how are you today, fine, be like that then...

// Let's initialise some variables and arrays! Everybody loves initialising variables and arrays! It's what makes life worth living!

// What's your name little event? You're not going to tell me? WELL I WILL RIP IT FROM YOU USING THE MODEL AND YOUR ID FROM THE POST! MUHAHAHAHA!

// Sanitise the event name so that when we create directories it's not as big as Arrakais' ego and with as many weird nuances!

// think for half-witted users who don't know how to properly remove spaces in filesnames

// Check if this file already exists, if so, let's beat this naughty person about the head a bit)

// What's your upload ID little upload? Want a sweety?

// thrust all that excitedly into our receptive event table

Okay, the gallery voting thing should be back working again.

I've recreated all the thumbnails, fixed all the dodgy thumbnail/image mismatch, and added some more photos to the gallery.

The thumbnail assumes that the "object of interest" is in the centre of the photo which has led to some amusing headless men... (I particularly like the duergar & Kylar thumbnails for this in a Spark of Chaos)
