TOPIC: Low Levels

Re:Low Levels 8 Years, 6 Months ago Karma: 26
From a combat perspective, the most exciting events I've been on are as a mid-level character at around rank 30.

In two cases with an equivalent-ranked party, and in another case a mixed-ranked party (varying from about rk 25 to whatever obscene high rank Quicksilver was back then).

Adventuring with a proper mid ranked party (i.e. 20 to 64) would be great fun. (If only I had a mid-ranked character, a rank 6 scout doesn't quite cut the mustard).

Sorry, just read that and it seems a bit cynical, blame my mother.

Not really. It seemed fair enough to me, for the most part.

I think there's a good case for trying to preserve low level events, and it seems that almost everyone agrees on that.

The only outstanding issue is whether any 'low (or no-status) _only_' events are on the cards. It still seems not.

My argument for running one or two of these a year -- and this should, of course, be subject to demand (so if they don't get enough, scratch them) -- would be that anyone _can_ still come. But they simply _can't_ come as just any old character.

Is this really so bad if it's limited to one or two events, which are run in addition to the standard 12? (If someone has membership that allows them to play on all events, they still can. They just can't play a statused character.)

Does anyone really believe that doing this will lose HQ any custom? I don't see an obvious argument.

Quite right. I've been on quite a few low levels these past few years, coz low level was all I had, and there was always plenty of players, and that was with twice the number of adventures a year.

From this thread, it looks like there'd be plenty still.

Run the adventure, and they will come..!

OK this thread has been going on for far too long now and covering numerous issues in one topic.

I suggest we try and keep threads to one topic where possible and thread size down, so people can follow the pertinent points.

I will ask Seb to close this thread - please continue in other specific threads by all means - we are not trying to stifle debate, just make it easier to read!

A few points from HQ admin.

1. We will run events to suit the demand - therefore if you want a low level then book on one. The aim is to run the November event as a non status event.

2. There are going to be no major changes to the rules throughout 2009.

3. The current system of Heroes and HQ abilities is going to remain for 2009.

4. You are unable to cast Rank or Level 9's and above until your Guild say you can.

5. If you have an issue about not dying, then don't buy back extra res chances and when your time comes, hang up you character and play another one

6. I will ask each of the refs running a HQ this year to make them harder (and enjoyable) with a high possibility of (character) death. If you intend to play one please bear this in mind - hopefully you will enjoy the challenge and we will monitor the feedback.
