TOPIC: Thranduil dudes

Thranduil dudes 7 Years, 2 Months ago Karma: 26
On the July HQ we had 2 guttering battle candles to last us the entire event.

It may be unfashionable but perhaps some of the party for the pleasant jaunt to sunny Thranduil may want to bring along some source of light???

If someone would tell me how to make battle candles I would be happy to do so.

Can anyone advise Alex?

I know that you don't want to use non-flammable bandages as someone once did... it took him a while to figure out why they weren't lighting as they should do

In case it helps, I thought I'd pass on that Mike Barley suggests "parafin oil lantins are alot better and i love them reek inside but good for outdoors light easy to refill."

Am sure some of the more practical people (like Rob or Deb) can better tell you.

It is something like you get an ordinary bandage which you cover in hot wax (use frying pan or similar - careful not to burn self )and then wrap bandage round an ordinary candle to desired thickness.

On a side note, as Player Ref I am happy to carry said lights/candles etc so that your characters dont have to worry about them.

My method has been to wrap normal bandages or fabric dishcloths (cheaper) around unmolested candles. A single layer of cloth is generally all that's required. Melt some more candles in a shallow baking tray/tin. Then roll the prepared candles in the hot wax. Remove to cool. Then exit house quickly as wife beats you with a broom for using her favourite tins! Jokes aside, best to use an old tin.

Hope that helps.

With the number of eeevil priests in the party I doubt you'll have many people interested in there being light sources.
Darkness is an evil priest's friend.

I remember Deb describing her battle candle making process to me and it sounded like Rich's method.

Just for that, I'll make sure I put in lots of scrolls in tiny runes that you find late at night (so you can burn them and use them as a lightsource )

Write them in dark ink on dark green paper. Like you did last time. Almost impossible to read in daylight, let alone by candle...
