Not quite two complete cure mortals, but very close, it'll be barely an overcure.

~looks at you~

I'm still the weak and snappy soft underbelly, you're just better at it than me now ;P

hmm I have memories of Melieth when I first played her - being told to come back when i needed a mortal..... with 39 life.....

I agree with Rob, Shaun and others - shield must have increases living potential by 60% I'd say

The point is that you suggest that using a shield should be the default position
Well, it was the default position for the majority of armies throughout the ages until gunpowder weapons turned up so why not in HQ? And for the same reasons.

hate to say it but they really lasted up the age of chivalry after that the pikes and polearms became the popular weapons in the english civil war, but in the ancient world they were vital, they formed walls to fight and also the tortoise and other specialist formations but if you look at how the walls were made they support each other through the combined strength of the unit keeping the line. the time the shield comes into its own is it can be used offensively and defensively. put it this way you can hit with the shield to knock someone off balance or generally daze them then go through with the weapon. shields are a great weapon and defensively you can stop arrows and also to push an enemy away. there was a shield used primarily for combat that i will find a picture of for people to see.

but when it comes to gunpowder the age of chivalry was over after time like agincourt and the 15th century the whole idea of shield use apart from dueling with the classic rapier and small shield like what phil uses as garret was the last real use for shields apart from the display of heraldry.

but i dont mean to be a downer but real shield walls use the whole line been crossed so as to wall, with the spartans, they would have their shields interlocking and they would have the front rank spearing underneath and the 2nd rank stabbing from overhead a wall of spears.

but in hq what made everyone want to use shields in the first place i must admit i prefer fighting with two swords as it makes it more challenging.

sorry i'll stop dont mean to be a pain.

Being able to use a shield effectively is just as challenging as being able to use two weapons. Either way you get it wrong and it doesn't matter how elegant your primary hand is if your other arm is waving around like a jellyfish having a fit.

I thought we'd abandoned the whole concept of realism around about the time somebody wearing a brightly coloured dress started throwing imaginary base 8 binary firebolts at somebody dressed as a giant toad chasing them with a foam sword?
