Recovered material - letter from Erelan Black 4 Years ago Karma: 26
This can be found in the Recovered Material section of the library here: heroquest-larp.co.uk/whats-it-all-about/...inaris-downfall.html

I understand Rex Mundi to be a member of the Aldonar who resided first in Wolfhold and then Darkhome for many years. Recently he left to join the Concillium. He claimed to have created the three Aldonar artefacts - "totems" - which he promised to Kudos.

Mundi was subsumed by the darkness after casting his ritual using the Shadow House as his focus, and became some kind of creature of the Darkness thereafter.

The Concillium 'brothers' the letter refers to included a Sorcerer from the Black College who was involved in the Concillium's grand experiment to punch through the planar barrier with mana. These Concillium were very wary of the Aldonar to the point of not trusting them, and were curious what they were up to.

Ware those who meddle with Shadow and the Darkness.

Lady Kevralyn,

Having been embroiled in the fate of the Rex Mundi and the three Aldonar totems this explains quite a bit. I expected to find them in the possession of Erelan Black and I'm glad that they have been recovered.

I originally encountered the Evil totem with a mixed group of Concillium, led by a wizard, and Aldonar. The Aldonar hung back and pushed the Concillium forward and then allowed us to keep the totem on the slain wizard. This smelt strongly of being led to the totem. This was then given over, by myself, to the Halmadonians for secure storage.

The good totem was already in our possession, having been acquired from the Plane of the Sleepless Dead when we recovered the spirit of Rex Mundi and let it possess his ancestor, if I remember correctly.

Later the other two totems had to be borrowed from the Halmadonians (evil) and the Dymwan (neutral) when Lord Carfleen was assaulted in order to make some kind of barrier but I am not familiar with those details.

The neutral totem, borrowed from the Dymwan, was duly returned to their possession but it transpired that the Sorceror carrying it disappeared during his return to the Oasis of Souls. A later report identified shadowy figures in black with elementals.

The Evil totem was stolen from myself whilst 'incapacitated' near the Jade Pass. More of that can be read from my report on the recent special unit mission which returned Morthac Storm and Lensal Blackbone. That totem was on route to the watchers sect of the Heights.

I believe that the Evil totem should be returned to the Halmadonians for storage as per a previous agreement made by myself with the authority of the Darkbringer.

Personally, I would also return the neutral totem to the Dymwan as gesture of goodwill and diplomacy towards them.

Ichabod.

My dearest Ichabod,

It gladdens me that you to have made it back to our tower despite the hardships we endured assaulting Cardinaris.

Indeed Rex did aid us in bolstering protection around our tower utilizing the 3 totems to keep at bay the hoards of Uruki during Carfleens games. This allowed troops to be dispatched under Lady Kevralyns command to deal with the upstart.

With regards to the matter of the Totems I feel it prudent to point out the following.

Halmadons Heights are not deposed towards us anymore and would suggest any contact with them in the field to be viewed as potentially hostile. I say this as even though they have declared aggression only against Darkhome. I am sure you will agree we will not stand by whilst our companions are assailed. You must also take into account that it was a follower of the Good Sphere that first struck Sir Godwin when he came to assail our Evil Sphere colleges. I doubt he will forget this.
So to return the totem at this Juncture would gain us no standing or any benefit to our people.

As to the Dymwan they are reported to be in turmoil so we have no real stable point of contact. So again would not be a beneficial gesture.

The Totem's themselves are in my care decreed to me under an Aldonar oath seal.
I feel currently their best use is to be studied to see if they have any further use or are sated of their power.
If anything contact with Erelan Black with regards these items may prove beneficial.

All the best.

To clarify.

I struck Sir Godwin when he made claim to Morigar's Inheritance. Something I had pledged my life to guard for The Broken Arrow. No other reason....apart from him being a major cock.

Dear Kudos,

I must congratulate all those involved in the slaying of Cardinaris and the recovery of Morigars Inheritence as a truely awesome heroic feat.

I understand that the Heights have engaged in a crusade against The Dreadlord and Darkholme and therefore effectively the rest of the tower by proxy but as we all know the Heights themselves are riven with differing factions.

A specific bargain was made to return the evil totem to the Watchers sect and doing so would not be aiding our enemies in any way as I don't believe that they would weaponise an evil artefact in any way.

Whether any contact can be made with the Watchers is another matter however.

In this case I strongly believe that the bargain made should be honoured, otherwise what value does our word as a tower carry?

Food for thought I hope.

On an amusing side note, it seems the the Dreadlord's noble sacrifice of removing himself from the tower to spare us the attentions of the Heights has been to little avail. It occured to me when I heard the news that, were I the Heights commander, I would attack all power bases of the Dreadlord, including his tower whether we was resident or not. The Knights of Our Dark Lady provide the Dreadlord with safety but does his absence increase our peril?

Still, all just merely musings,
Ichabod.
