TOPIC: Good spirit and zero life
#14853
Good spirit and zero life 5 Months ago Karma: 8
There are two slightly different wordings for when Good Spirit triggers.
One reads:
When the character would die of the their wounds.
The other:
When the character would be reduced to zero of lower life.

This has come up recently with void life drains around.

If you are life/essence drained to zero life does a good spirit trigger (as per second wording) or does it wait till you would actually die and trigger only when you take damage that would otherwise kill you (as per the first wording)

Re:Good spirit and zero life 5 Months ago Karma: 11
So if we go by the rules:

Good Spirit 5 & 6 says "the Good Spirit is entrusted with a healing spell then this will be released at a point when the protected person would otherwise die of their wounds."

Good Spirit 9 says "If the High Priest is ever reduced to 0 total life points then the Good Spirit will immediately cast a Rank 6 Heal invocation upon them."

So it implies that if you are life drained to zero life then only the Rank 9 Good Spirit would trigger. The invocations do have different wording so this sounds reasonable.

Presumable if a character has a good spirit that is not the result of the invocation (HQ ability, item etc) the version will depend on the level of good spirit healing the ability gives you?

Yes, I would hope that an item would stated as a GS5, 6 or 9.

Interesting discussion, I hadn't realised the wording was different to be honest! hah hah

I think the interpretation is reasonable and I would assume the item is ranked based on the effect (e.g. if you have a good spirit cure mortal that is a 6 if you have the heal then it's a 9).

Personally I prefer the wording on the lower ranked versions. I like the idea that you could subdue a good caster to the floor without triggering his Good Spirit Heal and that would only kick in if you tried to cut his throat while he was unconscious.

Would love to hear which way people would prefer them to work as I would like them to be consistent either way

I also prefer the lower rank version though this is entirely selfish as I hate the thought of losing a good spirit to large lifedrains or being caught out by the now common wave of void creatures.
