What happened recently that brought back some characters from death cant we redo that every year on an event and bring back two or three spirits for any character that was permed. just thought it might be a reasonable compromise.

Also i was thinking any chance that we can have characters use some kind of object like the revive potion in wc3. it sounds like something that you could buy that would help.

A suggestion: a resurection costs 1 Status.

That may mean 100 points loss, a loss of points to 1 point below the previous 100 xp break or a loss of 1 Status from the character's total.

There are lots of details (what happens if you have no status? How do you de-point a character? etc) but it is simple, costly to the character etc. addressing a number of issues.

It also fits in with the value of Status on Orin Rakatha.

ps. apologies if this has already been raised - I have been skim reading.

The simple response to this is to not consider the party's "death preferences" in the statting at all. Stat according to the nature of the encounters you want to run and leave it there.

Mixed ranks are a different problem entirely as that isn't neccessarily based on the choice of individual party members.

My last post on this one! It's not different in so far as people have control over the characters that they play, one might say... and indeed in how they choose to deploy those characters' abilities in the fights. (On Friday night of the last event, for instance, I held back because I was with much lower ranked characters... spelling them up, etc., so as not to impair their enjoyment.)

Given this, perhaps we should apply the same solution you suggest: ignore peoples' preferences about which characters they want to play (or how their characters are likely to respond) when statting?

(Ultimately you'll end up upsetting someone, yes, but I think it's much easier to stat when there's uniformity -- in risk of death, and yes, in rank/power of party. Hence why I think there's a similarity.)

Anyway, I'm out (in the immortal words of Iceman)!

Best,

Darrell

I don't see that res credits are so different in principle from people who in the past have monstered loads of dungeons to get enough points to break a 1000-point barrier and get a res chance back, which has been going on for years now, and I haven't heard a complaint about that.

With regards to statting and deaths, I trust the referees on this one; player-refs exist for a number of very good reasons.

That's enough from me in this thread - it's gone on long enough as it is.

Like it. Nice idea (similar to Phil's but just a little simpler).

Only reservation is how to roleplay this. Why would a character be (really) scared of death?

Really is my last post now!

agree that the buying back of Res chances needs an in-character reason - the bringing back from perm death was only for the Valley but is this?

Yea while we are here "ressing" dead threads. How much Res chance has this thread gone through, can I get ref call on that please????

Can this thread be tended to stop it losing more res chance? Is this thread even tendable or are people just cheating on theor posts to flog a dead horse here.

What is your favourite ice-cream Darrel? Or anyone else for that matter...

characters who make it to hero and or high level become part of the campaign and the history of the world

not only that but your characters become friends with these characters

if they perm die/retire we lose friends and the campaign and world become less for each person lost

this also stops some people coming to the club anymore so we lose the real person as well

i know this isnt always the case but it certainly is true in enough cases for us to bring the rule in

3 things to also remember -

1) it is a business so we do have to consider the benefits of players bringing characters back just so they can do a heroquest

2) it is a game and first and foremost we want everyone to have fun and having your character perm die can stop this fun, however many people stopped playing their characters when they were down to 1 or 0 res chances because they didnt see the point of continuing knowing there was a good chance they could perm. Knowing that there is a way to potentially regain res chances gives these charcaters a longer playing life.

3) we always have and probably always will have monster problems, anything that means someone may monster 1 extra adventure a year is good for heroquest and makes all your games more enjoyable
