Neutral sphere rant :) 1 Year, 4 Months ago Karma: 26
The other day I heard at least one neutral uber-High Priests complaining that he's expected to use his power for curing and not invoke in his sphere.

Like, what???

Are we Halmadons Heights where everyone is either on the front line hitting things or pumping loadsa tip-top heals and cures into them?

I say if you follow a different path, stick with it and use the powers that have been given you. There is nothing wrong with a well-used Halt or Bonebreak, or for that matter a Harm or a Feeblemind or WHATEVER!!

And what is this handwringing over whether you are 'balanced' enough? Surely Teppic had it right when he said kill everyone. Sooner or later you'll have killed enough good & bad people for it not to matter

Using it all on curing? Balls to that lass. I like to go in 't fight with a couple of neutral invokes running, preferably with a bonebreak pre-cast an all. Nothing like breaking three legs to start your morning off with a smile. Course part of the beauty o' the neutral way is just 'cause I can break your leg dunt mean I can't also give myself (or a mate) a massive cure or make meself immune to evil spirits an that sort 'o stuff an all.

As for 'keepin yourself balanced' bugger that, do whatever needs doin' at the time and let the spheres decide, if they care.

What's this <hic>?

You shun the path of balance? Well listen her lassie <glug> mmmm I'll tell you... something! What - ah yes, balance!

The few of us that follow the 'path' do so out of an inner obligation to ensure all spheres are represented! While I may heal more on missions - an obligation to the nation - I do what I can to balance that by murdering enemies just as much!

Our neutral bods are great and I think you must have been drunk when you heard whatever you did - we're out there smashin AND healing and even though the pressure is to heal more, those truly dedicated know how to SMASH just as well.

On a side note, was great travelling and drinking with you recently while that main group beat the Burblegut - let me know if you are out again as I'll happily bimble along with you, saucy wench that you are

What I actually said was - kill everyone EQUALLY.

I still stand by that comment.

Aha, not quite as exciting as the rumours had it but probably more apt now we're the law enforcers.

Balance shmalance

Maybe I misheard (though I don't think I did ) but in this place you do hear a lot of stories about non-good priests ending up as giant power stores for their comrades. If the neutral sphere wanted us to be healers surely it would make us better at it!

Anyhoo good to go out on a mission with ya Driedyn, even if we did end up going up & down lots of hills towards the end - I'm sure you can blame the dark and brooding posterboy for that

Those Neutral High Priests who are Martial or of the Monastery often keep the Balance within them by not straying too far outside the Neutral Sphere. For those of us who seek to widen our knowledge of the spheres as far as possible, often the only way to retain Balance is to take all 3 spheres, and as far as possible.

Those of us of the Grey Path have always served they Valley staunchly and sought to hold it together. I have done whole missions invoking the Evil sphere when there were no others of that ilk as that was how the Valley, and the Balance were best served. I've gone on missions where I did the opposite. Its what the Nation expects.

Other guilds, are available.

I once met a Sorcerer of one of the Empire's Special Unit's. He was intrigued by the use of 3 spheres and wanted such an individual in his unit. It's interesting how this skill viewed from the outside. Training in 3 spheres is really one of the Jewel's in the Valley Nation's crown.

Anyone want a Cure Mortal?

PS Cosmic Power Hammer is still my favourite though.

A discussion about the Neutral Sphere? – incredible!

It seems here that there are two question raised:

Is it acceptable for party members to determine which invocations a Priest should cast? The answer of course is no. I feel as a follower of the Neutral Sphere, the decision to act in a particular way (within Valley Law) should always left to the individual. Followers of the Evil sphere may have a different view on this, but I feel freedom of action is a sacred part of the Middle Way. The last time I looked we are not a dictatorship.

My personnel view on casting the Good and Evil Spheres is that whilst it can be pretty handy to do so, it is best left to those who are Primary followers and to do so can detract from the power of the Neutral Sphere. With recent blessings from the Spheres, Neutral Invocations are highly effective for both attack and defence, however with access to the Good Sphere the risk is that you will end being another healer to the group when you should be taking the fight to the enemy.

As Drokal implied, if you’ve broken enough of their legs, there will be little need for the curing of mortal wounds after...

The second concerns the notion of being ‘Balanced’. I currently believe this to be open to personnel interpretation and does highlight the lack of in-depth knowledge we have on this and other issues, since the loss of so many great and respected followers of the Neutral Sphere (Raucus, Faldor Steel, Avalon, Mathias). I would invite input from all Neutral followers to explore this further. For me, to be Balanced is to maintain my affiliations within the Nation evenly and to input to groups without bias.

Whilst I'm thinking, the Neutral sects have been long overlooked, and particularly by new adventurers. I am concerned that there is little understanding of the Neutral Sphere and what it means to follow the Middle Way. Can we put our heads together as to how we can better define ourselves, (beyond being stuck between Good and Evil!)

I prefer to think of us as bringing unity to adventuring parties and the Nation.

Wouldn't it be great if we could further our own objectives and ambitions. Following the Cataclysm, there is an opportunity for us to explore the new land and forge new alliances. And our members are well placed to negotiate and mediate these new relationships. (Forgive me Teppic, but this may not be the best time to ‘kill them all’….). There may alos be opportuinities to find out more about the Neutral Sphere from followers from other Nations.

I completely agree lupus me lad!!

Now im fairly new to this adventuring lark and for those who don't know me am a priest on the neutral sphere and part of the gauntlet sect but i have already had the 'DON'T WASTE YOUR POWER ON THIS AND THAT' speech already, and i gotta say this, if i want to power hammer the life outta something because number 3 spod on the end needs a kicking to collapse there line that's my choice, basically my power is my own and shouldn't be expected to save my power just in case the healer may need a power up, some one recently said to me that's an unfortunate reality of being neutral caster, we'll i say bollocks to that!!!!!

Don't get me wrong if the party leader has concerns, voice em! That's what the valley is about and generally i will follow orders, but don't be surprised if i tell you to sod off at the same time.

Lupus has a point,The neutral sphere needs a identity of its own rather than a seemingly poor dwarfs choice of the other two, and unfortunately that's how a lot of people see us. so the question remains, what do we see our self's as??? and or what do want to become???

to be a little biased i can see the neutral sphere working more towards bettering the overall situation of the party in a fight rather than a mish mash of damage dealing and lesser healing
we got a start with bone breaking, wards and such but what else

i my self will be looking into how my current casting runes work around not only myself , if fact more-so inclined towards my fellows in battle and out
