if theres no element of dea then what fear can you have involved, although were playing characters who are fictional. we try to be them for a few days. there is a revival system but you got four ressurections you can have and one more if you sworn to the king. you can get more for other reasons though.

But the long and short of the rules is its the refs are the ones who need to know all the rules not us you pick them up as you go along.

computer games cant compare with the exhiliration of larp.

Hi there DragonTao!

New blood (be it monster or player) is always welcomed. If you can't afford to play at the minute, then monstering is a great substitute to get a LARP fix: you get fights, role-playing, down-time and good company (hopefully! ) so it would be great to have you along.

Hopefully, most of your questions might be answered by the website under the ABOUT section (see the menus at the top of the page), e.g. www.heroquest-larp.co.uk/whats-it-all-ab...s/what-to-bring.html (ignore the stuff to bring for your character if you are monstering).

Monsters generally wear a black base layer with boots/hiking boots that don't look too out of place (as opposed to bright white trainers!) and will be given costume, weapons and direction as-and-when by the referees at the time.

It is quite normal for players to survive an event.

If they are severely injured beyond their life limits then they can potentially be brought back to the realm of the living by "tending" from other players - depending on the character (e.g. warrior vs scout hanging out at the back) & length of event this might happen to one person say 0-4 times over the course of a few days, and it doesn't always work.

However, if they cannot be restored (call by the player ref depending on how mashed up the individual is & how many times they've hit the deck already) then they will die. A character can be resurrected, but only a few times. In practice, these days it is quite rare for characters to permanently die.

Monsters generally tend to die in every fight, (although there are exceptions ) There might well be 15 fights a day.

We could write about the rules etc for days but it's surprisingly easy to get into it & familiar with it, all you need is enthusiasm & there will always be someone on hand to answer any questions you have as they arise during the event.

A return train journey from my humble town of Southport to Barnt Green Station (near Blackwells) is £46.80
Take a look
ojp.nationalrail.co.uk/service/timesandf.../arr/290112/1600/dep

I can afford it but as a student with no real income. Things must be considered and what not.

Hi DragonTao

As a non-driver myself, I'd probably head to Bromsgrove over Barnt Green, but depending who's coming, you might actually be able to get some people (who can drive) to pick you up from Birmingham itself, as we have a number of club members who live around that sort of area.

On Thu 26 Jan, there is a £7.50 advance single from Southport to Birmingham, leaving at 13:43 (arriving 16:17).

And if you don't stay til the very end of the event, then there are advance return fares on Saturday night/early Sunday morning (probably would recommend the Saturday journey) from Birmingham to Southport at £9.50.

I appreciate that there's some logistics still left to figure out, but I would have thought it's likely you would be able to get a fellow monster to drive you back on Saturday night to Bromsgrove station: and there are regular trains from Bromsgrove to Birmingham for £5.30.

At £22.30 combined for these three tickets, I hope that might be a more affordable journey for you.

Best,
Sarah

I would always advocate playing BEFORE considering monstering but understand the monetary constraint issue however we do a discount for complete new bloods

I think some of the magic of your first time playing is lost if you know "how its done" by peeking behind the curtain by monstering

Hello Dragon Tao,

To a certain degree i agree with Pete, your first playing experience is always breathtaking. The line between fantasy and reality is very thin because you dont know whats going to happen next! However you are very welcome to join either side, I will be refereeing the monsters and am always glad to offer advice to knew people, and there are loads of friendly faces to help you through.

Judging by your user name, the next event has something you will particularly enjoy

I live not so far from you. Live in Bolton, work in Preston.
I'm not going on the January game, but I am going on the February event. If you did want to go on the February event, I will actually be in Liverpool during the day of Friday 24th Feb, leaving around 16:30 for the event. If you able to be in Liverpool I would give you a lift for free.
