Nice to see there's a new area for discussion amongst those that wish to Cackle and Mwa Ha Ha over the concept of the Ascendancy of the Evil Sphere in a few months.

Anywhere to voice a contrary opinion, or will those characters simply use the standard guild halls?

All for the sake of balance, of course....

Hi Phil

I created this space so that characters have an easy way of discussing the Araikas dreams and other evil sphere etc related plot without needing to broadcast discussions IC to the entire alliance.

There have been similar threads before with the Darkbringer starting a 'closed' thread for people attending the Cardinaris HQ. Obviously anyone could read it OOC but it was supposed to be private IC.

Clearly the forum is a more convenient and inclusive mechanism to have IC chats than, say, over email, and it is an easy way of aggregating related threads (than having to pick the 'right ones' out in the Guild Halls).

If you wish a place to mouth off against the ascendancy then I would say there are plenty of places to do that already without me going to the effort of setting up another sub-forum.

Quite frankly nobody has been posting anything for the last few days, and little on the subject in the last few months, so I'm unconvinced somewhere extra is warranted

I may be mis-interpreting this comment, in which case ignore the below.

But if you want to discuss/criticise the evil sphere ascendancy, go and do it IC!

Don't complain about not having a place to complain, when you're not even complaining (that sentence made sense in my head)... which is the most pointless thing ever/after Justin Bieber!

Hi Sarah

It's more OOC to be honest and appreciate your comments. My sincere apologies as I'm old enough to know better.

My points is that for an inclusive and team work orientated club, I find the notion of private (secular) debate saddening and quite frankly cliquey (sp?).

In itself, the mission brief for the ascension event reinforces the fact that all work towards a common goal at a stressful time despite some actions being potentially distasteful to goodly aligned characters.

Surely there's nothing to hide when working towards a common goal (IC and OOC)?

This has been my opinion for over 20 years and is unlikely to change. People may see it as naive but it's a principal i'll stand by.

Sorry again for the vagueness, and hope this clarifies my thoughts.

R.

I think people have misinterpreted what Sarah has tried to do (which isn't helped by the title of the thread etc.) All she wants to do is set up a forum where ALL players who are attending the May HQ can chat about what is happening.

This has happened countless times before for different events and harks back to the days when some refs would penalize players for talking about stuff in open forums. Whilst we will not be penalizing the players I know that it is also useful to have a "quiet" corner where all the players can discuss and prepare for the event - this is particularly relevant for this HQ as we have sent various dreams/visions etc. to members, so Sarah wants to share this with ALL the players on the event and discuss it.

I totally support the concept that this is a team club and the fact that everyone can read the threads reinforces that. All Sarah is hoping to achieve is that the discussions don't get clogged up by people not attending the event from detracting from the discussions.

As Sarah has pointed out there are plenty of other avenues if people want to froth about the current campaign without joining this one as well.

Thanks guys for making it clear what the new board is for. It makes sense and I was simply thrown by the board description which, as Rich suggested, made it sound a bit cliquey.

Event specific threads make perfect sense, so perhaps a permanent, general IC "Events preparation" board should be created with the accepted etiquette that only those attending a particular event should contribute to the created thread or threads? I'm not suggesting a new board per event, but maybe just whoever starts a thread in that board states what event it's for.

I've changed the forum name to make things clearer (I never was good up with coming up with names for things!)

In addition to Bruce's explanation, I'd like to say -

- In the past we had long-running campaigns where the same adventuring group would go on mission after mission together, and get to know each other. These days we don't, yet it would still be nice to go on a mission with a sense of both organisation and cameraderie. Establishing a place where a particular HQ group can chat about what they plan to do on a big mission seems the best way we can get to become familiar with each other in advance.

- I'd (and Kevralyn would) like an area where characters can feel safe discussing their thoughts and ideas without fear of in-character snarky comments, name-calling (chin-strokers eh), or being made fun of (e.g. for not knowing something), and most importantly where it's okay to be wrong!!

Cheers Phil - I wrote my previous post without having seeing your reply.

Events preparation board sounds like a good idea to me - I won't change anything at the moment but happy to set this up in future.
