Is Gilden Far? 5 Years, 9 Months ago Karma: 5
I say,

Looking at the rather rudimentary map of Orin Rakatha I see that Gilden far is located in the South but is it the Mountain, the Forest, both or neither?

Anyone been that way and have a first hand opinion?

Also which are those towers down in that forest?

Ta ta,

Hello Ichabod.

Looks like its in the forest bit at the foot of the mountains.

Only time I have been in that area is when venturing into the Ikartian Triangle, which I would avoid if I were you, although it looks quite close to the Ikartian Triangle.

As I recall the closest Tower is the Labyrinth of Xenos. The other two Towers are abandoned/destroyed last time I was there, who knows now? Other Towers in that general area appear to be Annach Morannonil, although they have now gone and Barud Tirgul.

Hope that helps.

Hey Itchy-body

One of those nearby towers is the ex-Towers of the Four Winds and I strongly recommend you don't go there. Last time I visited it was full of 'memories' (like ghosts except worse) and anyone who lives there seems doomed to lose their Tower pretty quickly.

The other making up the rest of the Ikarthian Triangle is the ex-Ikarthian Tower.

Hello loosey,

Thanks for the info on those Towers. The wind place sounds worth avoiding indeed. Jeepers.

Are those three Towers (in the Forest near Gilden Far) the Ikarthian Triangle then or is it one of them makes one of the three? If only one is part of the triangle then which are the other two?

Also, reading about the Labyrinthe of Xenos, do they really have minotaurs and do they really have treasures within them occasionally?

Gilden Far you say? Horrible place...

Went there about twenty years ago with Gurthang, looking to deal with some Kalid General or other.

Turns out the place was full of nasty hidey holes and hidden things. I do recall we were attacked by a full pack of ghouls led by a ghast, first time I'd seen that happen.

If you're up to no good and want to do something out of sight and mind you can't really get better than Gilden Far on Orin Rakatha.

The Triangle towers are the Labryinthe, The Tower of the Fours winds and the Hold of Icarus (aka the Shadowhold). Yes the Labyrinthe field Minatours, yes they are as bad as they sounds and yes they sometimes have swallowed things in their guts.

Now if you give me money for a drink, I might tell the tale of what we actually found in Gilden Far...

My dear Ichabod,

I can agree with what has been said dont go into the Triangle unless ordered to.

Minotaurs; yes they have been known to contain enchanted items. I can remember finding a certain Valley members spell book in one once, but it does take considerable strength to prise open their rib cage.

Thank you Lucy, Harlequin and Kudos,

Most illuminating, seems like a rather dicey place, wot?

So, from what I gather, Gilden Far is a place, probably in the forest, round about the bottom of Mt Ironfist. It's close to the Ikarthian Triangle, which is the three towers in the same forest nearby, one of which is definitely the Labyrinthe of Xenos and the others last known as uninhabitated (apart form ghosts?).

The general area is pretty dangerous, with the Triangle being especially so. Gilden Far itself could be construed as a good place to hide oneself or some thing.

Jimny, I don't rather like the sound of that! However the Tower of the Winds sounds a jolly tempting place.

I know I might regret this but who lived in the ShadowKeep when the Hold of Icarus was named such?

Oh Harlequin, I can't guarantee you money for drinks but if you tell me what you discovered I may record your exploits in the Valley Archives. How could any man resist such immortality!

Toodle pip.

tsk tsk, Ichabod...

Fame, immortality... in preference to another drink and a clash of wits? Clearly my reputation does not proceed me, rest assured I am more than capable of funding my own entertainment.

I simply wished to see how much of such you might provide, ah well.

Let me see, the Shadowkeep was a tower formed from the ex-Kalid Shadowlords, their mercenary followers, the Mor Silvani and the House Dranath (nothing to do with me, at the time at least, I assure you). They didn't last long in the grand scheme of things.

Now, since you appear to be an individual of some refinement and learning I will humour your request, despite the fact that I find myself filling my own glass.

The first time I visted Gilden far we found Kalid, Saldorians, Tirian of the Free Thought society and 'Drow Business'. The second time, which was shortly after the first it was 'Drow Business', which may or may not be related to the previous such visit... I couldn't possibly say. That was followed by Erelan Black, Dymtharis, the Mind Flayer, DFD under Madass Hussien and a Kalid General. Ah I'm feeling all nostalgic... shame Boshek ended Gurthang, I feel like toasting his missing cock!

Time to open another bottle I feel.
