The Ascension - Thanks! 3 Years, 5 Months ago Karma: 26
I wanted to say a massive thanks for the wonderful Ascension HQ event just gone by.

Thanks to Bruce, MBT, Fraser, Sky for reffing, Creen for making really delicious evening meals and of course to the dedicated monsters for bringing all the encounters to life (or death, depending on what happened...)

Thanks to the party for being good-humoured the whole way through the dungeon and also for being kind & understanding to me.

Personal favourite moments include

- the arrival of the Black Pharoah
- the Black Pharoah destroying Sir Danus (woop!) and Halmadons Heights (woop woop!)
- taunting Sir Godwin (sorry Delta )
- drow business (unsurprisingly)
- being made Patriarch - that came as a complete surprise!
- the Bael song in the time freeze "bone break, shield cleave, bone break, shield cleave, dismember, dismember!"
- when High Priest Andrew turned up with 3 Adamancers
- the "fox ladies and their tails" - thanks for that one Scarlet!

Nice blag from Kylar on why he followed the Great Lord of the Dark

I really liked the Dark Pharoah's and Kamenwati's costumes. And good work on burying all those vessels several months ago in preparation - almost as if Bruce had written most of the adventure many months in advance

Thanks to everyone involved in making this an absolutely amazing event.

A great ref team and monster crew the whole way through and of course excellent meals.

A few stand out moment:
The Bael fight where it really did feel like being attacked by a pack of dogs.
Finally getting to put an end to Sir Godwin
The three seconds worth of being feeble minded round Kervalyn before she got annoyed and told Kass to take me away.

. black pharaoh turning up and blowing away sir Danus
. kicking the Oppawangs ass with Drokal
. getting a second crack as sir Godwin with kylar (go team knight!)
. oh yeah and Obelisk basically getting a item-gasm from finding out what sir Godwin's shield does lol.
. Delta's distraction tech on a beguiled me just before dumping a paranoia on Alex Serby lol.
. time out bonebreak song lol

Indeed - fantastic event!

Lots of fun, lots of storyline and plot, lots of umm FEAR and some rock hard fights

Too many to mention however especially liked how everything developed with the canopic jars and the bonds - when it came to Dreadlord chat night my view of events was almost completely different to that of the first night

And did anyone mention that Sir Shouty Steph-win finally got caught without an Addamancer? Whee!

Finally, because I still can't believe it, the fact that on the final day I managed to get through approximately 1800 power somehow and was still running out a lot of the time.... very tough but makes finally succeeding that little bit better

Cheers to all involved!

Well hearty echoes of "hear hear" to all claims of this being a great event. There wasn't even the traditional "shit encounter" to point at. It was from end to end excellent.

My high points;
* First evening encounter with the Shadowsfall Judge who confirmed more plot than entire heroquests have previously. Then add the whole "they are towerless" and "Damn the mystics" as future ammunition. . awesome.

* The "endless wave" finish of the overland culminating in Kamanwati destroying some shadowsfall and _then_ the arrival of Amos and his boys. We were properly scraping things together on the way back from that one.

* Feeling slightly disappointed when I remembered I had a guardian spirit after the Melnobs attacked and I decided to stand over Delta and make sure no-one ran off with him or Kylar. It would have been a cracking death.

* The Dreadlord (not him the other one) fight where the party split for the first (and pretty much only) time. What a massacre. . . . it was at this point I started wondering if I was going to lose 2 or 3 resses on this event.

* One of the least drama filled loot sessions ever.

* Wearing a glammy robe for most of the event (does anyone have a photo?).

* The realisation by a certain drowic party member about what was meant by "the most succulent part" that became "he ate them" in the next sentence. . . . . . . funny stuff.

* Diploming with the Kalid about how the future might look. . . and then having some instant payback the following day when the tribes "attacked". . . well done monsters. .

As always I am sure I have missed loads of stuff.

Thanks to everyone involved you were all the best.

My first ever week long larp and it was amazing.

Definitely have to thank the chef, food was spectacular all week.

Thanks to the crew, you were great targets and once again my apologies to all who deserve them.

My definite high point was going eeeevvvviiilllll

Thanks to the refs for a great plot and a great game.

And finally thanks to all of the players as well, it was fun adventuring with all of you.

I'm working on branches at the moment but as soon as my back's better my tree temple is joining me on the dark side.

The look on everyone's faces when bruce appeared in THOSE shoes haha

Now I realise why The Black Pharoah was like "why are you not all kneeling?!"
It was so we could admire the boots!!

Also, I feel I should comment that Theran/Malice's druidic treehouse is pretty amazing! Wow.

The Treehouse of Terror! That was pretty epic. . . indeed Therans transformation to evil was really well done. I had a few conversations with Scarlet about his turning white and one very abrupt one with Theran after apparently insulting him and his entire race by asking about it. . first time i have been gobsmacked to silence in a while

Also the Claw was memorable for all the right reasons. Seeing a full claw for I think the first time (for me) was great (ooooh an Elantir, I remember that now *teleport stab stab stab teleport* ). Mark Powney walking around as the Herald spouting non-stop crap was hilarious "and you shall offer the claw a 10% discount before any other bargaining begins!" grrrr . Add in some properly terrifying skullball and it was messy messy encounter. . . great fun.

The whole digging stuff up section was also fun despite the shoddy tools especially when I finally managed to get one tile out almost intact. Although going after the essence draining one first was a bit of a sphincter tightening moment. . . "I hope they ain't all like that!" was a comment I recall
