Cardinaris very jealously guarded his realm and his secrets.

What we do know is that it is called Necroplis and is the remnants of the Aldonar home plane after the Great Catastrophe.

You may already be aware each realm is themed according to its Realm Lord. Therefore in the case of Cardinaris I imagine it will be similar his home plane.

Usually there are six types of Undead that occupy a realm as detailed below.

• Generic Spirits (Lesser) – these are non descript lesser spirits that roam the realm endlessley like Hordelings do in Orin Rakatha. They are corrupt minor souls that have been dragged to the realm or trapped there and look non-descript and all alike, normally in drab, greys, white and black. These undead are the standard Zombie, Skeleton, Ghoul type, although as they all look alike it is difficult to be forewarned what they are (although Zombies are more easy to identify!). They will normally attack any living on sight. If slain these spirits will usually reform within 24 hours.

• Realm Spirits (Greater) – these are more defined spirits who are usually linked to the Realm Lord and their past life in some ways and will be “dressed” in accordance to the theme of the Realm, possibly even looking humanoid and alive in appearance, although they are still spirits. These spirits are ignorant in their role and may not even be aware that they are spirits, often living out their former lives. I imagine in Cardinaris’ realm they will take the form of Aldonar. They usually have the skills of their former life. These spirits may or may not attack any visitors and are just as likely to engage with visitors as if they were alive or part of the Realm. If slain these spirits will usually reform within 4-8 hours but will have forgotten anything that happened previously.

• Unique Undead – these undead are the standard Greater Undead like Wraiths, Mummy, Ghast etc. that have been put into this form by their Realm Lord, depending on their particular flavour. So for example the Chiromancer raises a lot of Skeletal warriors and the Realm of Disease and Decay has Mummies. I would imagine that if Cardinaris has any of this type of undead that they are likely to be wraiths. These undead are used by the Realm Lord to maintain discipline and deal with any intruders and often act as guards and the like. If slain these spirits will have to be re-created/raised by the Realm Lord.

• Realm Lieutenants – each realm usually has a number of Lieutenants between 1-5. These are very powerful spirits linked to their Realm Lord and utterly loyal to them. They are fully aware of the state of things and help the Realm Lord to run the Realm. Their appearance, demeanour and abilities depend very much on what they were in their former lives. If slain they take a long time to reform (up to one week); if their Realm Lord is slain, then they are unable to re-form.

• Realm Lord – this is the master of the realm who has complete control within their own realm. Their power is absolute and they are very difficult to kill, but can be slain. They are totally aware of their former selves and have complete control, often having spent a long time establishing their position and realm. If slain their spirit will retrun to the heart of their realm and quickly reform (in under an hour). To slay a realm lord you need to slay them in their point of power and destroy the focal point of their realm. Beware, once a Realm Lord is slain their realm will swiftly fall apart and be consumed by the Void, unless another individual of power assumes the mantle of Realm Lord.

• Invading Undead – the last type of undead that may be seen are undead from other realms that have been sent to test opponents realms. These undead have either strayed onto another realm or been deliberately sent there by their Realm Lord. This often happens as the Realm Lords vie against each other and often test each others boundaries and Realms. These undead can vary in type, purpose and strength. There is usually a swift response by the Realm against any invading undead, dependent on the strength and nature of the Realm Lord.

In addition to undead it is possible to see other mortal travellers traversing a Realm, many use the PotSD as a form of travel or even trade there (usually with the permission of the Realm Lord). You will also sometimes see mortal Necromancers that are sworn to that particular Realm Lord, visiting for training or to pledge their loyalty.
