A Terrible Loss 8 Years, 4 Months ago Karma: 2
I say this with a heavy heart but yet i must take it upon myself to inform those who are not yet aware. During our recent mission to Murandir we performed a ritual to break the power of a great and evil being known as the Manatu.
During this ritual the great hero of the alliance nathan offered up his life to combat this evil. Unfortunatly though his spirit strength was still great he could not be resurrected. His spirit has been lost to us for the time being though i do not for one moment believe that he will not be returned.

So i would take this time to say a few words of praise for a man who stood for everything that is best in the valley alliance, whose words meant more to many than they could say. Who i had the priviledge of accompanying on this mission. I wish to say only this, Thank you friend and i will see you again one day soon

I feel it is important to give a different perspective.

The ritual that took Nathan's life was itself evil, and might not have been performed. I still feel that it should never have been performed, and that we should have sought another way. Evil begets only evil.

I also see a worrying trend in the Alliance, where giving one's life is seen as a 'Heroic' act to be emulated even when it is arguable that the circumstances do not really demand it. (I was forced to give my life merely to improve our relationship with the drow on Murandir, in order to save the life of a party leader who was otherwise intent on doing the same. As I said at the time, and will say again, this only sets a bad example. The fact that I was afraid to die, which I openly admit, is beside the point.)

Nathan will no doubt be missed. And I salute his personal courage. But it would be wrong, I feel, to celebrate his decision to give his life in such a way. He should never have been allowed to do so.

Saying this, I recognise that this was not an easy decision for those reponsible. I also recognise that their intent was pure. I simply hope they will learn (what I perceive to be) a lesson.

Wen sumone cannot return den regardless of de circumstances der life an deeds shud be celebrated. I only met nathan recently an in dat short time I came to understand why he was held in very high regard by many of my kin. Take it from one dat has been through dat door dat Hero nathan's story has not finished, it has just started anuther chapter.
Now is not de time for lectures on wat some fink is right an wrong now is de time to celebrate nathans life an deeds. Analysis an stuff can come later.
I shall raise a tankard in nathans honour.

I am sorry that you missed his wake. I too raised my goblet, with no analysis.

Nathan, a great defender of the alliance, has fallen. His name will be remembered. As Anubis once said to me; Death is not the end.

Quicksilver,

To clarify I offered to lay my life down to prove your support for the cause of Law and to harbour relations to enable your investigation and resolution of the Chaos vortex as you had so vehemently pursued these past months. If it also helps foster relations with the Drow on Murandir then so much the better. Needless to say I shall as requested have no further involvement with your goals and undertakings.

With regard to Nathans sacrifice. I heard the arguments from each side and chose to act to break the Rod. I stand by that decision despite the cost. We have weakened the Windwalker and caused his servents the Ancient Wendigo to be driven back just as those of us who attempted the ritual believed.

Nathan is still out there so I will no longer mourn him as though he will not return. Instead I will do what I can to find him and free him from his current predicament.

Well said Shard. Then as now i stand by your decision. As, i would remind you quicksilver, did Nathan. He knew what the consequances may be and faced it bravely. Who amongst us can say that they could do the same? As long as there are those who will fight for his return he will never be lost to us.

Woolf say Rod must have been broken.

Wendigo was undefeatable without Rod broken.

Wendigo would have caused much death on Orin Rakatha.

Destruction Wendigo save many many lives.

BUT

There was another choice.

Could have offered Number 10s life instead, him cause problem him life solve problem.

Why offer life of great Hero Nathan, instead of scum who cause problem?

Woolf not understand the Law Men, this not seem Good choice to Woolf.

Woolf not even allowed punish Number 10 for actions.

Better see Number 10 punished by Law Men. You think you seen Woolf angry before?
NO , rage will be TEN FOLD if Number 10 slither back to Wolfhold.

Woolf say not lose hope yet for Nathan. Him soul somewhere. When Woolf lost on Realm of Battle friends not give up, friends go rescue.

Woolf not give up on Nathan.

Nathan, High Priest of the Grey Warden Sect, was always unflinching in his support and defence of other Alliance members, and should be considered an example to many. His popularity is testament to his willingness and ability to consider all views.

On occasions where some were willing to resign themselves to defeat, or postpone difficulties until another time, Nathan would press for a solution and see it through til its successful conclusion.

I believe we should ensure that the same persistence is accorded him when, as Shard says, there is the possibility he can be returned. For the moment, I advocate we celebrate his courage and hold fast to his deeds - both seemingly small and large - that helped make him, and our Alliance, great.
