The Eternal Night 7 Years, 11 Months ago Karma: 7
This was an excellent event; the best I've done since I returned to LRP last year.

I'm confident I speak on behalf of all the party in thanking Bruce and his support crew, notably Gavin, Mike, Neil and Shaun, for all their sterling work.

What stood out for me, in particular, was the effort that was made with preparing areas and props. One example would be the banners in the forest on the plane of battle. A small touch, but one that mattered a great deal. The lodge and soul garden were top-notch. (And then there were all those scrolls in the library! Fantastic!)

The real highlight was the Agoth Experiment section. As I said in the debrief, going for the blindfolds and headphones was imaginative but risky. For me, it worked perfectly. It was exciting and very different. I also loved the idea of trying to blindly reassemble the brain to escape (although unfortunately some other characters seemed eager to disassemble it and permanently die)!

Also my thanks to the party for such a fun interaction. All the differences were kept purely IC, which is how it should be!

Kal was the best.

Erelan Black was Erelan Black.

Cheers,

Darrell

I would like to thank so many people for making my last event as a Referee such a pleasure.

In particular Gavin, Mike, Shaun and Neil for helping me realise my vision.

Gavin did a superb job on the set dressing and prop preparation and put in a huge amount of effort (we may have a new full time ref now ). Not sure about the naked Gill though!

Mike was fantastic as always, helping me come up with the ideas in the first place and managing the huge amount of kit on the event.

Shaun did a superb job as the Player Ref; I know it must have been very tiring having to battleboard and watch the players as well as fight and help kill all the monsters

Finally, Neil for keeping the monsters happy and in line and generally helping out.

The monsters were superb and brought the event to life, so many of them during various times and some even coming out of retirement to help make the event special. Thank you all, couldn't have done it without you.

And finally, the Players - without their buy in and support, all these efforts would have been wasted. You all got stuck in and made it a pleasure and worth all the effort.

Off for a well needed shower, shave and sleep now - I can retire from reffing a happy man .

Thanks to all the refs for all your hard work, it really showed for the set pieces like the library, soul garden and agoth experiment.

Still reeling from loss of 100 sanity points from the sight of gavin screaming in a nappy, covered in blood. The most disturbing thing I have seen in larp.

I thought we were all equally good. Apart from Kal, who was the best.

I would also like to add massive amount of thanks to all the people who made this event what it was - the refs, Bruce, Gav, Mike, Neil and Shaun (and Steve who sometimes helped battleboard), the wonderful monsters who gave us a good beating on so many occasions and the cooks who served up much tasty food every night.

I have to say the set dressing was absolutely top notch (Gav are you free at the start of April 2010!!) - Cardinaris's lodge, the Agothian Soul Garden, the library and the Agothian Experiment really stand out as sensory experiences. Even if Gil frightened the life out of me when he suddenly materialised from the fog screaming a few inches before my face.

Lots of memorable moments, some personal ones included:

Arrival at the personal lodge of the most powerful necromancer of Orin Rakatha (and other places), decorated with skulls, severed heads, a skeleton hanging from the rafters, a mummified corpse in a coffin, large runic skull banners saying "death" etc, and the Micheliner Good High Priest Quicksilver quipping "I love what you've done with the place". The gravestone saying "A Ghoul" cracked me up too

Me to Quicksilver: "What can Erelan Black do?"
Quicksilver: "you don't want to know"
Erelan Black (pointing at Quicksilver): "By the power of my voice - DIE!"

A feebleminded Kal coming around to find himself webbed to a chair with his trousers slightly pulled down holding an orange in each hand and wax on his fingers, and two smirking sorcerers standing nearby.

Randolphin stoking the scurrilous rumours by changing into a black robe halfway through the event. Go Team Nerd!!

Some fun sorcerer combos.

The "lost in the Void" (blind, disorientated, listening to the VOICE OF AGOTH) was highly atmospheric and very well co-ordinated. You guys really pulled it off - fab! For me this was one of the highlights of the event.

Finding out I broke Otion Wraithchild out of the ritual of sundering with 25 seconds to go before all the nasty stuff kicked in - PHEW!!!!

A distressed Ezekial saying "I became a soul hunter - I killed a member of Wolfhold!" and everyone else bursting out with laughter (?!) when I asked "who was it?"

Beating Otion Wraithchild to death with a small power 2 mace. Woohoo!!!!!!!!!!! There is only one black king piece.

Cardinaris being cheesed off he couldn't walk through the ward and get the Book of the Dead. And then saying to me "I hold you personally responsible for breaking the alliance between Wolfhold and the Dymwan". Thanks for the popularity boost!

Hearing Lancorrin laugh, I didn't know he could - most unnerving...

The ensorcelled ruler needed for the ongoing sorcerers' <censored> contest that also carried on in time out Sadly Duke Zarn wins hands-down...

Picking up a scroll in the library, reading my translated heading "The Codex of Nation Spirior", saying "well this can go in the bin" and getting a dumbness-unlimited-ranks from the librarian

Gravesong plonking himself next to the Realm Lord of Disease and Decay with a look of great smugness, and the Realm Lord turning round and saying "you may be immune to the obvious effects but I suggest you never have children..."

Very gutted I missed my one and only opportunity to find out my character's history!

Great to be on a party who all get on and were pretty cheerful throughout.

Yayyy!!!

Well I see I missed all the best bits!

Oh well, I still had a great weekend at least and I'm glad to see the Bruce pulled off a great finale to the campaign.

I really enjoyed talking pics, it's just a shame I had a technical failure on the video camera - next time perhpas. For those of you shunning the evil that is Facebook, I've sent this website the best ones...

See you all next year if I don't make it in December.

hey all,

i have to say i had a great time and thats down to bruce, mike, sean, neil and all the players, monsters around for some excellent role play and battles. loved it.

I loved the whole props and enviroment created through the genius of the refs n' Gavin.

My fav bits

the agoth void thing where we got to blind fold and take most the players senses felt a bit wrong to begin with but when we started tormenting the players it became a lighter and fun.

Seeing the look on Quicksilvers face when he stopped kal and toshiro and then executes the demorilised agoth. sight of pure hapiness.

the unclean one battle and subsquent vere battle that knackered people out.

standing gaurd of the soul garden and constantly back and forth attacking the party.

the whole last fighting encounter.

doing pats little undead attack encounter and being misheard for shouting die agoth SCONES. can i have some tea and jam with tht. lol

thank you to everyone for such a great time.

This was one of the finest and most memorable events I have ever played. Huge thanks to Bruce, the refs and the apparently limitless number of monsters who came out to give us such a wonderful time, and to the cooks for consistently tasty food in epic portions.

The Library, Agoth, the Soul Garden, and the Lodge were all wonderful set-pieces in their own ways, Agoth and the Void especially a deeply disturbing and original experience. What most impressed my was the attention to detail throughout the entire game, set dressing, costume, props, dialogue and plot made for a truly wonderful, and wonder full, adventure. Thank you everyone.

This was only improved by such a fine bunch of players and characters to adventure with.

Many favourite lighter moments, including Debs pegged out and spread-eagled on a forest path in full black robes and gimp mask, writhing and groaning at the approach of footsteps only to have a dog walker hurry past.

The Realm of Battle was a blast, and the monsters seemed to enjoy this realm too! Agoth was a true nightmare, the Vere (sp?) fight in Disease & Decay possibly my most desperate and scary personal fight, behind enemy lines with a severed arm, a fatal disease, and the potion in a bag the other side of the fight - thanks Kaliste and Randolphin!

As for the wasp's nest - well, we were in the Realm of Pain. Aaargh! Time out! Aargh!

I definitely agree with all that's been said, what a fatastic event. Many thanks to Bruce and the other refs for all their efforts putting it all together, there were some amazing encounters with incredible attention to detail. The Soul Garden, Library and The Agoth Experiement were outstanding. I had a "Doom" flashback when Gav came out of the smoke, truly disturbing! That whole section was awesome. And good to see the return of a few faces who've been away too long. George, I'm sure there's an "Agoth" dance mix just waiting to be played on your radio station.

As always, thanks to the cooks for some truly excellent food. I thought the beef stew was great but the roast was just fabulous.

And huge thanks to the rest of the party who really gelled and made it a truly enjoyable and memorable event.

Bruce, thanks for some great games over the years, what a high note to go out on. See you in the party on an event soon I hope! Enjoy your well earned rest.

L8R,
Adam.

Wanted to say.....I really enjoed the whole event and that was because of all of the people envolved refs, crew (including cooks) and party...

There are lots of things I enjoyed and will talk about for a while to come

Bruce was the huge driving force behind this endeavour making sure there was a well written event and a solid brief (the event was over sixty pages long way back in august)

He spent a lot of time gathering together a great crew and party

And this is why I am more than a little sad as this was his last event

Bruce I am sure will be very sorely missed in his ref capacity
Let’s just hope after a rest he will come back as a player

Mate I take my hat of to you!!!!

(Wished I’d played it ahahahhahahahah)
