The Kern Valley Alliance

Your character will be a member of a community known as the "Kern Valley Alliance" on Orin Rakatha.  The Alliance currently inhabits three Towers, having expanded over the years from a single Tower.  Broadly speaking, the three Towers are inclined towards good, neutrality and evil, although internal politics make this situation much more complex.

Wolfhold

Wolfhold is ruled by Lord Raven.  However Lord Raven is rarely seen and instead issues his edicts through Dreadlord Araikas, the Steward of Wolfhold.  The ruling council of Wolfhold are known as the "Lords of Wolfhold" and comprise of a select number of individuals with the influence and personal power to back it up and put down any challenges.

The Wolfhold Tower comprises a number of the darker guilds in the Alliance.  These include:

  • Black School of Magic
  • Iron Guard and Fell Knights of Ushaz (warrior guilds)
  • Dark Brethren, Seers, Reapers and Necromancers (evil sects)
  • Wolfhold Hunters and Assassins Sects (scouts)

Also within Wolfhold are the Alliance Drow Houses: House Tumdurgul and House Drannath; and the Church of Lolth, a player-founded sect within Tumdurgul and Drannath who gain their teachings from the Dark Path.

Although the Dark Path is technically based within the Valley Alliance Tower, some of its members act as diplomats for the Dark Camp as Wolfhold Ambassadors.  These individuals are distinguished by the emblem of a blood-red hand superimposed on the Wolfhold symbol.  Dreadlord Araikas himself used to be a Wolfhold Ambassador before he rose to his current position.

Members of Wolfhold are not necessarily evil, but those without a darker or - as some see it - 'practical' disposition may feel uncomfortable in this tough Tower.

White Retreat

The White Retreat is ruled by the Royal Fellowship and headed by the Sir Clavados, the Steward of the White Retreat. Guilds represented in the White Retreat include:

  • the Red, Green, Blue and White Schools of Magic
  • Crusaders (warrior guild) and Order of St Michel (a knightly order that anyone devoted to St Michel may join)
  • three goodly acolyte sects of Humact (anti-unlife), Michelene (anti-evil) and the White Path
  • Seekers (a scouting guild noted for its information gathering capabilities)

The White Retreat is ruled by the Royal Fellowship, mainly comprising Guildleaders of the Sects and Guilds based within the Tower.  A large number of the Fellowship are members of the Order of Saint Michel, dedicated to the former head of the Tower (King Michel Rol-Dantigh) who - while recognised as a force of Law in the Time of Legends on Murandir - ascended to the Good Sphere on the most recent Crusade.

The White Retreat consists of many goodly individuals, who vary considerably in their outlook from peaceful to extremely militant (such as those who believe that all evil-doers should be purged from the world).

Valley Alliance

The third Tower is the Valley Alliance Tower (sometimes known as 'The Village'), and its leadership is currently under change.  The Tower name is also expected to change along with the new leader.  Guilds represented in the Alliance Tower are:

  • Temple of Earth (Brown magic), Yellow Guild, and Grey School of Magic
  • Rangers (warrior guild) and Order of Knights Martial
  • Merchants
  • the neutral acolyte sects of the Grey Path, Wardens and the Gauntlet
  • Pathfinders (scouting guild)

Also within the Valley Alliance Tower, for political reasons, are the Hospitallers (a sect of goodly priests dedicated solely to healing) and the Dark Path (a sect of evil priests).

The Valley Alliance is ruled by the Primus - a small council who make decisions on behalf of the Tower.  Below the Primus is the Congress - a group of influential individuals and Guildleaders/Assistants of Sects and Guilds based within the Alliance Tower.

The Valley Alliance Tower traditionally has a relaxed outlook and approach to the world - essentially anybody would be welcome within their Tower.  Until recently it was ruled by Raucus (Rol-Aucus), who has returned to his homeland of Murandir where he was once head of the Village.
