Acquiring LARP skills |
How do you go from a green adventurer to a mighty warrior, a powerful Priest, a wise Wizard? Heroquest is a points-based system - that is to say - all skills cost points. You gain points for your character through adventuring experience, roughly 1 point per hour of playing.
You can also gain points for monstering and allocate these to a character of your choice. With these points, you can buy skills for your character. For example, a warrior might want to buy "life" (so he can withstand enemies' attacks for longer) and "strength" (so he can hit harder). The cost of skills varies according to your race (elven, half-orc, human) and class (warrior, priest, magic, scout). Many people find that character development and acquiring new skills is an enjoyable aspect of live role-playing. Points and RankA character gains one rank for every 10 points his character has. Therefore, a character with 637 points would be considered rank 63. Rank is relevant for some spell effects, which affect only characters under a certain rank (e.g. "sleep 64 ranks" would affect a rank 63 character, but not a rank 65 character). Wards (that prevent people from entering a certain area) are often rank-based.
