The Kings Wedding - A Report by Maggot

The King's Wedding - A report by Maggot

Any errors or omissions in this report are somebody else's fault.

In attendance: Maggot, Aruna, Ezekial, Quicksilver, Leitha, Tersius, Orlando, Slurry, Slag, Verrick, Constantine, Asgard, Marik, Gutrot, Myrtle, Brother John, Sasha, Kaylan. I think that's everyone.

Zeke turned up for the mission and told me that he didn't remember being left behind a few missions ago to the mercies of Agoth and that he thought he'd come back with us. Brother John checked him out then tried an Unshackle Spirit and suffered several nasty evil ritual invocations for his trouble.

A group of us split off to go and defend a caravan that was under attack. After wading through goblins and bandits we fought a group including a Duegar and rescued Veskar the merchant. She said the Duegar had been asking her about someone called Allesandro. Her potions and trade contract had been stolen and her guards were missing. While we were away the other half of the group went to poke a nearby tomb. There was some kind of undead Knight in there defending his tomb and he took exception to an evil member of the group being there.

The Chorian turned up and told us a bunch of stuff: The death of the Dark Avatar on a recent mission created a new Vere on Orin Rakatha. There are psionic Veres on Agoth that guard things of import. "Agoth" and the "Vere"s are recent names. The Valkyrie going to Dalehoven could be dangerous as she will be a beacon to Agoth and she is not a necessary part of the Chorian and Anubis' plans. The only way to kill a Vere is that first you have to cut its connection to its soul garden in the realm of Agoth by releasing the souls. (breaking jars according to the party that went there first) Soul harvesters collect souls and put them in the soul gardens. The knowledge of the location of the soul gardens and also how to counteract soul harvesters can be found in the Hall of Heroes. There may be a Vere in the HoH which will be a problem.
We need to find out who the new Lord of the Realm of Battle is since the previous furry incumbent was replaced. If a bargain is made with him it's then possible to die on the Path of Heroes to get to the HoH although if you've been to the HoH before you may be able to get back there without dying. The path to follow: Dalehoven -> Realm of Battle -> Hall of Heroes -> Agoth Some wild Drow turned up muttering about the fact that this time was auspicious and had some importance to do with the chaos vortex. They were followed/accompanied by a chaos creature. They attacked us and were slain. A group of us went off to sort out Veskar's problem with her trade contract etc. We ran into some poisonous lizard things and Leitha died in the fight. Further on we encountered some human shark cultists and what turned out to be a Troglodyte. We put it down but couldn't kill it due to its outrageous regenerative powers. I later found out you apparently have to kill them with one blow, i.e. Touch of Death. We were fresh out of Reapers at the time so we beat it lots while some of us talked to a merchant (Vermine I think his name was). We tried to get him to come back to base with us, he resisted and we subdued him and brought him back after finding Veskar's trade contract in his bag. On the way back we found some nutter raving about scary stuff so we brought him along. He turned out to be an evil power user. Him and Vermine were taken away by security.

While we were away the other group saw some woman being abducted by some Empire troops and also some saboteurs had started placing explosive poisonous devices in our residence that went off at varying intervals doing grievous damage to the party and killing our newbie scout, Kaylan. Some were carried by suicide bombers.

The wedding tournament was then conducted by Priest Edwin, wedding logistics officer. The King arrived in time to see some of the events and much amusement followed. The highlight of the proceedings had to be Zeke managing to achieve a negative distance with one of his javelin throws, a feat unlikely to ever be bested.

Praetor Amadeus turned up very unhappy about security what with bombs going off. He sends a bunch of us out to deal with the problem. We found a couple of camps with bomb making equipment and killed all the scumbags there in a couple of protracted skirmishes in the pouring rain and gloom. The Praetor questioned various of those present individually over the course of the day. I wasn't among the select few so don't know what was said. I don't think the Praetor know what to make of me. I think shish kebab might have crossed his mind as an option.

While we'd been away killing bombers the other group had to deal with an Agothian ritualists after they turned up through a portal which has apparently appeared at the site of the death of Otion Wraithchild. The party managed to disrupt the ritual without killing the individual conducting it by means of power drains, major disease and healing so preventing its completion. Nicely done.

The King, Lady Constance (his betrothed), the Praetor and an empire scribe called Pessimus turned up for dinner. It was announced that the lady was pregnant. The King looked less than pleased… Can't say I blame him considering that it wasn't him wot got her up the duff. A deep wood elf and a knight, Sir Fuross, also arrived to pledge allegiance as did the Drow high mucky muck, Darketh Nightspawn. I think his turning up was something to do with the game on the last mission? He left us with a parting gift of the promise of the imminent arrival of something nasty. A big, nasty chaos creature turned up after they'd left and we gave it a good kicking in a protracted fight. Dreadlord Araikas, Sir Thoran and Lord Bael made an appearance as well with Bael engaging in amusing banter with the Praetor while Wolfhold members conducted business with the Dreadlord. A red clad woman who'd been with the Drow party came back and some of the others talked to her. There might be more information on her in other reports maybe? I had a long chat to Pessiumus about how the Empire first attacked the valley etc. Interesting stuff. I've got it written down if anyone's interested. Anyway, turns out our new queen's previous husband might have had a "boating accident" and the Praetor might have been steering at the time, if you get my drift.

In the morning we had a herald bloke with an annoying drum arrive to summon us to a fight where a formal complaint was made about the marriage. I didn't catch the name of who was making the challenge, some Empire bigwig. So we had a great scrap with an Empire shield wall.

Oh, and then there was some little wedding ceremony thing. Must have been important 'cause the Dreadlord said some stuff about affection, not a word that comes easily to him apparently. Heh heh.

Maggot.
