The Doom of the Ice Elves
"...from within the 101 pages of the book, Morphius presented to us page 76 – the story of Isandeer Farsight, Ice Elven Soothsayer. The central characters included Zalaborn Stargazer, 2nd Seer; Illydia, Seer and wife of Isandeer; Tar Analion, King of Isindril.
"There had been a 'golden age' for the past 80 years. However, the Seers talked of a new way, with the nobles to serve the soothsayers. Many of their number had embraced the ways of Chaos. Zalaborn had received a vision of the Drow attacking their nation. He suggested some pre-emptive action: to capture a High Priestess. Isandeer rejected this idea, and suggested that they take the "news" to the King, and send an emissary to the Drow. Zalaborn and Illydia, however, had other ideas. In their "love" for each other, they decided to arrange for some of the outer settlements of their nation to be attacked by the Drow. A time passed, and the Soothsayers met again: Zalaborn this time bringing news that the Drow had launched an attack and demanding a course of action rather than advice, for them to show strength and not weakness. The High Priestess had been slain, and the Drow in return had killed four of the council members. Isandeer said then that he must take a message to the King, and offered to shoulder the blame. Zalaborn said that they were at war, and made a token attempt at offering to share the blame which was turned down, as he had evidently expected. Isandeer noted that he would probably lose his head over the matter, but Illydia said no – for the sake of her unborn child.
"The vision moved on. Tar Analion was speaking with the envoy of the Drow, Eldrax Valdurim: Patriarch of the then 2nd House of Annach Morranonil. The Soothsayers were present as the council. Tar Analion asked Valdurim to apologise for the hostilities; Valdurim cried treachery, and spoke of how his sister had been captured and killed. They decided to have a noble dual: leader versus leader, to settle the matter for their peoples. Valdurim was obviously winning in this fight, so the Soothsayers bonded together and directed a "Curse of the Ages" at him, which aged him rapidly that he crumped to the floor: dead, an old man. Tar Analion wept - head bowed - over Valdurim’s body, for that which was lost."
