Shadowsfall enforce the Laws of Orin Rakatha and also take contracts as assassins. When Shadowsfall have painted symbols on their faces, they are on a contract.
Various Alliance reports
Archive Note: Commencing with the closure of the tower of Azad-An by Judge Helm Brighthand, (formerly a Knight of the Shadowsmeet), Shadowsfall is reasserting what it believes to be its undispuatble authority across Orin Rakatha. Considering Brighthand's proof of power in his closure of the tower, this is no idle claim.
"Judge Chi Chen Lau Ham declared that the Shadowsfall are the Laws of Orin Rakatha. Thus in their opinion, if we do not accede to their demands then we are flouting the Laws of the Land. We have since slain Judge Helm Brighthand and burned the contract of the Ritual of Ashes, with which they had been threatening the Alliance as a whole."
Kevralyn Soulfire, note, Snow Moon, 11AR
"During the founding of Spirior, Shadowsfall assasins came at us. Twice they came and both times we slew them all. They came a third time, led by the one who had taken the contract. Again we slew them all and finally, with the contract in our hands, we were safe. It was not an easy time."
Belas Knapp, eye-witness, Cold Moon, 10AR
Archivist's Note: The contract for the above assassination attempt is in the possession of the library.
"One of the oldest Towers on the Land. In a time long ago, before the Mists roamed the land, the Shadowsfall were called the Shadowsmeet. They were responsible for upholding the laws of the land, but it is believed that they somehow failed in this duty -- hence the Mists, the accompanying Hordelings, and their change of name.
"The Shadowsmeet contained, among other things, an honourable Order of Knights."
Quicksilver, 15th of Planting, 10AR
