Located north-west of the Central Isle, the Hold of Azad-An was on the river Rundig. Along with the Reader, Azad-An welcomed us to Orin Rakatha and helped us when all others were against us.

The ruler of the Azad-An is named, unsurprisingly, Lord Azad-An. He wields an empowered axe and a large mug of ale; he is also a womaniser, and merry-maker, of great repute.

"The Azad-An suffered greatly at the hands of the Kalid, after (and it is rumoured even _during_, when the Free Towers Pact was in place) the Dymwan Wars."

TheFall

As of the 22nd day Wind, 11AR the Hold of Azad-An is no more. The former occupants have been forcibly expelled. The tower was closed by Judge Helm Brighthand, formerly a Knight of the Shadowsmeet, who announced:

His tower has not forgotten the rights, the Laws, the ways of Orin Rakatha.
The words used by the Azad-An in their defence are weightless.
He finds Azad guilty of crimes of status irregularities: that the status pledged to him (Azad) was not rightfully his.
He (Brighthand) rightfully declares this tower (of the Azad-An) is closed, and that all leave this tower.

Present with Judge Brighthand were Adjudicator Luke and Adjudicator William.

"A Shook of hordelings overran the Tower as it fell. This corresponds with the prophecy of the Kalid Seer a few months previously: "The greatest shook you will ever see will gather, and will attack and bring down the towers of Orin Rakartha".

Kevralyn Soulfire, eye-witness, Wind Moon, 11AR

"The fall was precipitated by the defection of Azad's eldest son, General Athlon Han, to the Kalid. Those remaining loyal to Azad himself have returned with him to the Reader tower. In my opinion the Kalid were well aware of the imminent fall of the Hold of Azad-An, one of their ambassadors was present and made an offer to the remaining members of the hold after Brighthand closed the tower. Once the tower was closed, it's powers rapidly waned, hordlings flooded in from all directions deeper into the tower, and elementals drove the inhabitanmts out, breaking their bones, blinding them and robbing them of speech"

Belas Knapp, eye-witness, Wind Moon, 11AR

"Man on gate (who smelled of Cabbage and wee) said that people had been called back because of Hordeling outside tower. No hordeling in tower until after Shadowsfall did the deed."

Run-with-Wolf, eye-witness, Wind Moon, 11AR

"...offer to the Azad-An, made by Lord Gezrin of the 4th Kalid Legion immediately after Judge Brighthand of the Shadowsfall had given his decree:
- The Kalid Nation would like to extend their sympathy and a hand of friendship to the Azad-An at this difficult time.
- Azad’s son, General Athlung, has been made a Legion Commander of the Kalid, and named a Hero of their Tower.
- All those of the former Azad-An Tower who could successfully escape the attentions of the shook of hordelings outside their Tower could join the Kalid, and would be paid 10 Gests per point of status."

Kevralyn Soulfire, eye-witness, Wind Moon, 11AR

Background

The Azad-An originated from the Reader when Azad left to form a new tower. At first the protectors of the Reader, in the end they worked for the Dai-fah-Dyne. Short on resources after setbacks, in 10AR they started to subcontract to the valley using a Mercenary Contract

The Ambassador of the Azad-An at the court of King Michel was the Lady Subitai.
