General

Colours - green square with superimposed white triangle.

This Tower forms the northerly point of those making up the Icarthian Triangle in the south-south-east of Orin Rakatha.

Various Alliance reports

This Tower has been replaced by the Shadow Keep, as of the Time of Reckoning 11AR.

The Ikarthian People

"From talking to the ghost of King Ikarus himself, it seems that Ikarus was forged from the very life essence and status of the Ikarthian People themselves. They were a people who worshipped light and goodness, and strove towards purity."

Kevralyn Soulfire, note, Snow Moon 11AR

"I believe this Tower was known as Ikarus's Keep. Here is some information from Halmadonian records, about their people:

"The Ikarthian People made Ikarus their leader at the very beginning of their society; in a small number of years he became a great man.

"He saw that the Ikarthians worshipped light and sought to banish shadow from their presence. The very essence of Shadow rose up against him and the Ikarthian People, but his finest artisans, wisest sorcerers and bravest warriors were gathered to defeat the Shadow. The role of those gathered at his side and whom were first named Heroes of the Ikarthian People is as follows:

Anooj Odit - Commissioner and Ambassador to the Ikarthian People
Farghana Peck - Elemental Master, Sorcerer
Trelleck Vaugh - Champion of the Ikarthian People
Sendin - Hope Giver and Spiritual Guide to the Ikarthian People
Odshall Gorn - Master of Light, Sorcerer
Bray of Taran - Artisan, Master Craftsman
Zak - Finder of Paths, Journeyman

"Once defeated the Ikarthian sages researched the Ritual of Ashes to seal the gaol of their Nemesis for all time."

Death of Ikarus

"The ritual that was being done when Ikarus was slain was the yearly one to reaffirm the ward around the Triangle hence the name of the area that stopped the Hordlings from getting into the area.It was surmised that all those with status were in some way pledged to this and that is why they were killed when the backlash hit.The ward was still in existance 8-10 years ago."

Gilrehyan, note, Leaf Fall 11AR

Wizard Kandor Illythian (Blue College Wizards Concillium) confirmed that it was Ravanon who slew Ikarus. Gilrehyan tells me that it was the Taranor, not the Valdemar, who occupied one of the Triangle's Towers at this time, and that the Valdemar are the descendants of the unstatussed Ikarthians who survived the destruction of their Tower.

Kevralyn Soulfire, note, Leaf Fall 11AR

It was believed that the Icarthians, the Valdemar, and the Labyrinthe of Xenos tried to create a safe environment between their towers, known as the Icarthian Triangle. Until recently it was thought the Mystics took exception to this and the tower was destroyed as a result. However, this is now no longer thought to be true.

Various Alliance Reports

Icarthian Nemesis

"Ironically, it seems that the Ikarthian People created their own Nemesis. They forever strove to remove the taint that denied their purity, and Ikarus himself was flawed, being created by and forged from imperfect beings. Ikarus however believed he could remove the taint. In a ritual with his seven apprentices, during which they used the Shadow Disks, they believed that they could banish the shadow from themselves. They failed, and in doing so created a terrible being of Shadow which we have since named Ikarus's Shadow.

"Using the disks, they researched a way to put their antithesis away, so that it could cause no more harm upon Orin Rakatha. Collaborating with Wayland Wycan of the Labyrinth of Xenos, they created what is now known as the Ritual of Ashes to seal the creature upon the Plane of Shadows. This Ritual was then performed annually, to strengthen the seal and to remind the Ikarthians of how far they had fallen.

"It was not known how long Ikarus would live, so the responsibility of the Ritual was given to another group with a philosophy similar to the Ikarthians - the Valdemar - with the aid of the Shadowsmeet.

Kevralyn Soulfire, from Shard Farsight's notes, Snow Moon, 11AR

"The waystation was later approached by two towerless men named LongHand Odit and Jarek. I granted them entry, and LongHand Odit told us of a confession he desired to make.

"It transpires that his people were formerly of Icarus's Keep, and that he was descended from one of the apprentices of Icarus himself, one of the 7 Heroes who originally cast the great Nemesis - "more than one man, in many aspects: a despoiler of cities, a winged beast" – onto the Plane of Shadows. His ancestor, this Hero, was named Anooj Odit.

"LongHand Odit wished to make a confession to the Kern Valley Alliance: a confession of cowardice. He said that for some time, it had been written that the Nemesis would return, and that he knew it would happen. Last All Hallow's Eve, swathed in black and grey, he waited in the forest while we cast the Ritual of Ashes. He heard a single cry from afar: a signal that the Nemesis had returned. He took up his sword, but was too afeared to fight the creature, and thus sought to flee.

"Although he could not face the creature, he left at the site of the Ritual his father's token – passed through the ages – the black disk. It was said that they were carried and used to throw the Nemesis into the void, and that there was at least one for each of the 7 Heroes (possibly more). Many of the disks were lost after the Tower fell: they were not all handed down as sacred as they should have been.

"LongHand Odit then placed upon the table another of the disks that he had recovered, along with a beneficial potion, before departing."
